  2. Ah the Aeropress. Still can’t get over those first few under extracted drips before you plunge and then the topping up with hot water… Never got into it.

  3. Robert,

I ground a bit too coarse for this bean, so there were more pre-drops than I expected. The topping up with hot water is, of course, optional. You can also press right in to hot water, but the result isn’t quite as good.

Heck, for $40 it makes a damn good cup of coffee. I don’t fully appreciate press pot-style, and I’m too poor to afford a vacpot!

  4. Ken:

You are brave using an Aeropress directly into a Bodum Pavina. I broke one of those pressing an Aeropress when my grind was too fine. I now use a Bodum Bistro double-wall - the glass is much thicker.

In any case, that is a fine video. I have been trying the inverted brew method to reduce the pre-drops.

  5. Bob,

Thanks for the comment. I’ve been looking for a better (i.e., flat-bottomed!) transparent mug for some time, but you’d be surprised how hard they are to find! While I’m bearing down on the top plunger, I often picture the horrorshow scene that would accompany an Aeropress/Bodum accident.

As for the inverted method, I’ve used it a few times but haven’t found a noticeable difference in taste. I also feel a bit weary when I’m trying to ‘flip’ the whole mechanism before pressing! At any rate, it’s a neat trick once in a while!
